Efficient and high-quality sandblasting for perfect surfaces

Sandblasting is a proven method for cleaning or refining surfaces precisely and gently. In sandblasting, an abrasive is propelled at high speed onto the surface of a workpiece to remove dirt, rust or old layers of paint. The process is particularly suitable for preparing parts before further processing steps, such as painting or coating.

Whether metal, plastic or more sensitive materials - sandblasting is versatile and offers the right technique for almost any material. Sandblasting provides the perfect finishing touch, especially for turned parts that have been manufactured to exact customer specifications. The surfaces are cleaned, smoothed and then optimally prepared for further use.

Frequently asked questions on the subject: Sandblasting

What is the difference between sandblasting and glass bead blasting?

Sandblasting usually uses quartz sand or a similar abrasive to clean or roughen surfaces. Glass bead blasting, on the other hand, uses small glass beads that work more gently and are less aggressive on the surface. Glass bead blasting is particularly suitable for sensitive materials as it leaves a smooth, shiny surface. Sandblasting, on the other hand, is often used to remove stubborn layers of rust or paint. Both processes have their own specific area of application, depending on the material and the desired result.

Which materials can be treated with sandblasting?

Sandblasting is versatile and can be used for various materials such as metal, wood, stone and plastic. It is particularly suitable for removing rust and paint from metal parts and for cleaning stone surfaces. However, more sensitive materials such as aluminum or plastic require an adapted blasting technique to avoid damage. The blasting medium and the blasting intensity are individually adapted to the material and the application in order to achieve optimum results.

What effect does sandblasting have on the surface of a workpiece?

Sandblasting cleans, roughens or smoothes the surface of a workpiece, depending on the type of abrasive and the technique. Metal parts are often given a matt surface that is perfectly prepared for subsequent painting. In other cases, blasting can have a polishing effect, resulting in a smooth finish. Importantly, the process not only provides visual improvements, but also increases the adhesion of coatings and prevents corrosion. This makes the workpiece more durable and resistant.

What safety measures must be observed when sandblasting?

Sandblasting produces fine dust particles that can be harmful to health, especially if quartz sand is used. For this reason, respiratory masks, safety goggles and suitable protective clothing are essential. In addition, there should be good ventilation or extraction in closed rooms to minimize the spread of dust. The blasting material should also be carefully selected to reduce health risks. Modern sandblasting processes often rely on more environmentally friendly blasting agents that are less dust-intensive.

Why is sandblasting important before painting metal parts?

Sandblasting roughens the surface of metal parts and removes impurities, which significantly improves the adhesion of the subsequent paint finish. A clean, roughened surface ensures that the paint adheres better and is distributed more evenly. At the same time, it prevents rust or old paint residue from impairing the durability of the new coat of paint. This makes the end result not only more visually appealing, but also more durable and resistant to external influences such as moisture and UV radiation.
