Frequently asked questions on the subject: Milled turned parts

What are milled turned parts and how do they differ from other components?

Milled turned parts are components that are manufactured using a combination of milling and turning. They offer the advantage of producing complex shapes and geometries in a single production step. This distinguishes them from parts that are only produced by turning or milling, as both processes together enable more precise and efficient results. Milled turned parts are used in particular for components with asymmetrical shapes or multiple machining surfaces. These parts are used in numerous industries, from the automotive industry to medical technology.

What materials are used for the production of milled turned parts?

Many different materials are used for the production of milled turned parts, including stainless steel, aluminum, brass, plastic and titanium. The choice of material depends heavily on the requirements of the end product, such as strength, resistance to corrosion or weight.

Stainless steel and aluminum are particularly in demand when it comes to components for demanding applications such as mechanical engineering or aviation. Plastic parts are often used for lighter, less stressed components. Thanks to the wide range of materials, milled turned parts can be used in numerous areas of application.

How long does the production of milled turned parts take?

The production time for milled turned parts depends on several factors, including the complexity of the part, the choice of material and the quantity. Simple parts can be produced in a few days, while more complex parts that require special machining can take several weeks. Added to this is the set-up time of the CNC machines, which is shorter for large series. In many cases, however, manufacturers work to keep delivery times as short as possible in order to meet customer requirements. Precise consultation with the manufacturer helps to determine realistic delivery times.

What tolerances can be maintained for milled turned parts?

Milled turned parts are manufactured with extremely high precision, and the tolerances can be very low depending on the application. As a rule, the tolerances are in the range of a few micrometers, especially for components used in highly sensitive areas such as medical technology or aviation. Modern CNC machines enable consistently high precision, even for larger quantities. However, it is important that the tolerances are clearly defined in advance and agreed with the manufacturer to ensure that the end product meets the requirements.

Why are milled turned parts particularly suitable for complex components?

Milled turned parts offer the advantage of producing complex geometries in a single machining step. This reduces the number of work steps and minimizes the susceptibility to errors that can occur when machining in several steps. The combination of milling and turning is particularly ideal for components with different shapes, such as cylindrical and flat surfaces. This reduces costs and production time without compromising precision. This versatility makes milled turned parts the preferred choice for many industrial applications.
