Frequently asked questions on the subject: Machining of complex workpieces

What is machining of complex workpieces?

Machining of complex workpieces describes the manufacturing process in which material is removed from a blank to create complex shapes and geometries. These workpieces can be made of different materials such as metal or plastic. Complex components often require tight tolerances and special surface requirements. CNC machines are used to ensure maximum precision. Typical applications can be found in the aerospace, automotive and mechanical engineering industries. The more demanding the workpiece geometry, the higher the machining requirements.

How is the machining of complex workpieces optimized?

Modern CNC machines that enable high-precision work are used to optimize the machining of complex workpieces. Selecting the right tool and machining parameters plays a major role here. In addition, the material, cooling and cutting speed must be coordinated. Simulation programs help in advance to avoid errors and speed up the process. The use of such technologies can reduce manufacturing costs and increase productivity. This means that larger series can also be manufactured efficiently.

What are the challenges involved in machining complex workpieces?

One of the biggest challenges when machining complex workpieces is maintaining tight tolerances and high quality standards. Different material properties such as hardness and toughness often complicate the process. In addition, many workpieces require several processing steps, which makes programming and setting up the CNC machines complicated. Vibrations during machining or tool wear can lead to deviations, which is why continuous monitoring is necessary. The right choice of coolant also plays a key role. Each workpiece therefore requires an individual approach.

Why is CNC technology important for machining complex workpieces?

CNC technology is indispensable for machining complex workpieces as it enables precise and repeatable results. Without CNC machines, it would be difficult to produce workpieces with complicated geometries and tight tolerances. Programming allows various work steps to be planned and executed efficiently. Automation also allows larger quantities to be produced more quickly. Manual sources of error are minimized and quality remains consistently high. CNC is indispensable for complex workpieces with varying machining requirements.

Which materials are suitable for machining complex workpieces?

A variety of materials are suitable for machining complex workpieces, including metals such as aluminum, steel, titanium and copper as well as plastics such as POM and PE. The choice of material depends on the specific requirements of the end product, such as strength, weight or corrosion resistance. Harder materials such as titanium require special tools and machining strategies. Material removal and dimensional stability must also be taken into account. Soft plastics, on the other hand, are easier to machine, but often require precise tools to achieve sharp edges and smooth surfaces.

Quality at every stage of production

We guarantee our customers first-class products and absolute precision. Customer requirements guide our actions and our decisions. We do a lot to achieve this:

  • in-process inspections by qualified employees
  • Use of highly developed measuring technology, e.g. 3D measuring machines, contour measuring devices, profile scanners, form measuring machines
  • 100% inspection of high-volume parts for freedom from chips and important dimensions such as length, inner and outer diameter

Our ISO certification ensures the consistently high standard of our quality management. We work in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016. We have been certified in accordance with the environmental standard DIN EN ISO 14001 and the energy standard DIN EN ISO 50001 since 2018.
